Mary Magdalene in European art

Mary Magdalene in European art

Mary Magdalene's popularity can be seen in the many paintings in which she appears, especially from the 12th to the 16th centuries. Devotion to her was strongly rooted in the Low Countries, in Italy, France, Germany and Spain.

We are here presenting a list of paintings for which illu strations are available on-line.

Do not omit to study the series of picture meditations by Theresia Saers. The series is based on European depictions of the Magdalene.
