For Better, For Worse is a series of five programmes on Marriage , each of 35 minutes' duration.
Rationale
Secularised Western societies are undergoing a revolutionary shift in the ideals, expectations and structure of married life. It might look as if the institution of marriage itself is doomed. However, an unexpected opposite trend is taking place among Christian couples. They are discovering a new strength, a deeper dimension, a spirituality of togetherness that stands in stark contrast with the Christian moral preoccupations of the past.
A striking feature of this development is that it is found among young Christian couples throughout the Western world.
Presentation
We zoom in on a succession of couples who tell us about their lives, voice over. Like through an in-depth interview we discover the deeper dimensions in their married life. Intimate and personal revelations (V/O) are complemented by dramatic and captivating images of the couple in everyday situations.
We turn to other countries where, through similar in-depth interviews, we discover the universality of the experience, in spite of interesting local cultural differences.
The Series
The "Extra Dimension" is illustrated at the hand of five THEMES, each of which will form the core of a 25-minute programme:
1. A Power Game? (differences in taste, interest, jealousies)
2. Sex or Intimacy or What? (conflicts? learning? what's the use? )
3. Divorce Yes or NO? (How do we save our marriage? What's gone wrong? )
4. Marriage or Career? (both partners at work; working mothers)
5. Growing old together? (coping with change; updating the dream)
