my inner struggle

caught up in the maelstrom of events,
an as yet undecided conflict is growing
of contrary emotions --
the energy of the fire which is the source
of the struggle for my basic rights
also feeds the asphyxiating smoke of my aggression

helped by the chill
of indifference in me
my passion to survive is trying
to put out the fire

as long as there is sufficient warmth of love in me
the asphyxiating smoke of aggression
will not get a chance
