Recruiting volunteers for womenpriests.org

Are you prepared to face a new challenge?
Do you feel that women should receive a better chance in society
and in the Church?
If so, why not consider whether you can join us, a band of idealistic yet serious reformers.

What we are urgently in need of . . .

Public Relations Officers

Essential qualities we are looking for:

You are a woman or a man committed to the cause of women in the Catholic Church. You need not be a fanatic. In fact, we definitely prefer someone with a balanced approach.

You have fundraising ability. You can draw up project applications and are not afraid to approach people on our behalf. Some specific skills in all such things can be learnt as long as the basic willingness and openness to fundraising are there.

You have some time on your hands. Some of your work requires travel in your own country, to attend relevant meetings on our behalf or to meet specific persons in their homes.

Why is your work crucial?

Although we reach out to a million+ people a year through the language sections on our website, we need local sponsors in major countries. Some sponsors support us financially. Others contribute their expertise: in writing, translating, designing and making our work known. You help us recruit new sponsors and relate to existing ones on a face-to-face basis.

Academic Advisers

Essential qualities we are looking for:

  • You are committed to the cause of women. But - do not worry! - you need not be a radical feminist. In fact we definitely prefer people with a balanced approach.
  • You are academically qualified and competent in a specific academic field. We need experts on sacred scripture, theology (sacraments, church, redemption, mariology, etc.), history, law, sociology, psychology and related fields.
  • You are familiar with the special demands of online communication. This means that we need to present the academic case in a way even non-academics can understand without sacrificing the quality of our research. It often boils down to communication on two levels: a 'popular' presentation supported by professional publications.
  • Your name will not be published on our website without your permission. In the present repressive climate in the Catholic Church, professional theologians and others unfortunately at times need to hide their names from public scrutiny.

Why will your contribution make a difference?

Many people in the Church favour the ordination of women on the basis of a 'gut feeling': this is what Jesus would have wanted! There is some validity in this. Their 'gut feeling' is inspired by their sense of the faith. However, our website specialises on providing the academic grounds for admitting women to the priesthood.

Church authorities and other traditional groups base their opposition to women in the ordained ministries on arguments from scripture, tradition, theology and church teaching. We have made it our task to examine such arguments on their academic validity and to offer the Church valid grounds for changing its policy regarding women.

The academic quality of what we publish on our website is paramount. It is required by our mission.

Interaction Facilitators

Essential qualities we are looking for:

  • You are committed to the cause of women. We are not looking for extremists, but for people who are genuinely open & prepared to give the case for women a fair hearing.
  • You feel at home in the world of the internet and the 'social media'. We need a wide range of persons in each of these areas: our main messageboard CIRCLES, our targeted blogs, learning through our online courses and discussion on FaceBook, Twitter and other media.
  • You will receive a specific task within our overall output.

Why do we need you?

Our website hosts the largest academic library on the ordination of women. The material we have - in a number of key languages - is impressive.

At the same time it is crucial that visitors to our website can truly interact: express their opinions, engage in discussions, ask questions, tell us their stories. Only such an interactive approach can bring about the widening and deepening of perception that we are looking for. And only true interaction with our visitors can help us understand what they really need.
