Aims & Objectives
This website (www.womenpriests.org) has the
following concrete objectives:
- building up a large academic on-line archive of documentation
on the ordination of women;
- keeping the discussion on the ordination of women alive in the
Catholic Church;
- establishing a network of scholars involved in research on the
women priests’ issue;
- translating the major documentation into other key languages,
such as French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Norwegian and
Portuguese;
- offering pastoral support to priests, religious and lay people
who are upset or confused about the present tensions in the Church relating to
this issue;
- publicising information about the ordination of women within
the Catholic Church.
In spite of Vatican II’s calling for “a lawful freedom
of inquiry, freedom of thought and freedom of expression in the Church”
(Gaudium et Spes § 62), we are facing enormous opposition from the
institutional Church. This means that many avenues of fundraising are closed to
us.
