Aims & Objectives Make the saint's dream a reality!

This website (www.womenpriests.org) has the following concrete objectives:

  • building up a large academic on-line archive of documentation on the ordination of women;
  • keeping the discussion on the ordination of women alive in the Catholic Church;
  • establishing a network of scholars involved in research on the women priests’ issue;
  • translating the major documentation into other key languages, such as French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Norwegian and Portuguese;
  • offering pastoral support to priests, religious and lay people who are upset or confused about the present tensions in the Church relating to this issue;
  • publicising information about the ordination of women within the Catholic Church.

In spite of Vatican II’s calling for “a lawful freedom of inquiry, freedom of thought and freedom of expression in the Church” (Gaudium et Spes § 62), we are facing enormous opposition from the institutional Church. This means that many avenues of fundraising are closed to us.

We need your financial help for this project to survive!

Wijngaards Institute for Catholic ResearchThis website is maintained by the Wijngaards Institute for Catholic Research.

The Institute is known for issuing academic reports and statements on relevant issues in the Church. These have included scholars' declarations on the need of collegiality in the exercise of church authority, on the ethics of using contraceptives in marriage and the urgency of re-instating the sacramental diaconate of women.
